The Social Gaming Leadership Alliance (SGLA) announced the appointment of Sean Ostrow as managing director, enhancing its leadership team as it continues to promote “responsible innovation, consumer protection, and appropriate oversight that recognizes the unique entertainment value of online social games,” per the news release.
Sean Ostrow To Oversee Lobbying, Public Policy Initiatives For SGLA
According to the SGLA, Ostrow brings more than a decade of experience managing leading entertainment, technology, and gaming companies on legislative and regulatory strategy.
In addition, Ostrow has led advocacy and government relations efforts in several state legislatures, developing modern frameworks for emerging digital entertainment sectors.
“Sean brings a rare combination of deep policy expertise and on-the-ground advocacy experience that will be invaluable to our mission,” said Jeff Duncan, SGLA executive director and former congressman.
“His track record of building coalitions and navigating complex legislative environments will help the SGLA strengthen understanding of this industry and ensure responsible innovation continues to flourish.”
As managing director, Ostrow will oversee SGLA’s lobbying and public policy initiatives, working with legislators, regulators, and stakeholders to ensure the existence of online social games with sweepstakes promotions.
Ostrow Previously Worked For FanDuel
Ostrow will report directly to the SGLA board of directors and work closely with Duncan.
“Online social games with sweepstakes represent a creative, accessible and thriving form of online entertainment, yet its story has been misunderstood,” said Ostrow.
“I’m honored to join the SGLA in advancing a fact-based conversation about this dynamic industry and in working with policymakers to ensure adults can continue to enjoy these games safely and responsibly.”
Before joining the SGLA, Ostrow served as a multi-state contract attorney and strategist with Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP, leading policy initiatives for the Sports Betting Alliance (SBA) and advising clients including Major League Baseball, the NBA, and the PGA Tour.
Per the SGLA, he also served as manager of government affairs at FanDuel.
The SGLA advocates for “fair oversight” and “modern regulatory frameworks” that recognize social gaming as a legitimate, entertainment-focused segment of the digital economy.
Social gaming includes sweepstakes casinos and social casinos.
