Chumba is one of the longest-standing social casinos in the marketplace. It was launched in 2012 and practically invented the sweepstakes gaming genre. Having known and played at Chumba Casino for years, I’ve taken it upon myself to test it and write about how this casino stood the test of time.
Chumba doesn’t offer real-money gaming. Instead, it offers casino-style games that you can play for free by collecting Gold Coins (GC) that are used to play for fun and entertainment but cannot be cashed out. You can also purchase GC, which are bundled with Sweepstakes Coins (SC) and given as a bonus. Unlike GC, SC can be redeemed for cash prizes as well as gift cards at leading brands.
So, how does one of the longest-established sweepstakes casinos fare against the competition with its bonuses, game selection, mobile app, and promotions for existing users? Read my Chumba Casino review to find out.

New signups get 2 million Gold Coins and 2 FREE SC when they create a new account at Chumba Casino. Use your Facebook profile to register for an account in just a couple clicks, getting you to the action quickly. Chumba also has a progressive daily login bonus that goes up each day that you log in (up to 7 SC per week), which means you can always play at Chumba Casino for free, no purchase necessary.
Terms and Conditions
The Chumba Casino promo code for new players has very reasonable terms and conditions, with just a 1x playthrough requirement. That means the Sweeps Coins (SC) you receive only need to be played a single time. Any SC that you win is available for prize redemption.
For example, if you receive SC10, you might play a slot for SC1 a spin. After 10 spins, whatever you have leftover is available for redemption.
Additional terms and conditions include a minimum cash prize redemption of SC100 ($100 cash prize) and a minimum gift card redemption of SC20 ($20 gift card). So you need to win at least that much SC to redeem a prize of any kind.
Lastly, SC is only available in your account for 60 days since your last log-in.
Full Chumba Casino Review
I put every social casino I review through strict testing measures, and Chumba Casino is no different. I look closely at every area, compare it to other casinos, and share with you my findings in detail. So here’s what I found when writing my Chumba Casino review.
Game Variety: 4.0 / 5.0 Yays
I’ll get to the quality of games in a moment, but first, let’s talk about numbers. With more than 12 years in the business, you’d expect Chumba Casino to build an extensive game library, but this isn’t really the case. The casino has one of the smallest game selections in the industry, with a little over 200 games.
As I expected, the lion’s share of Chumba’s games comprises over 160 online slots, including popular titles like Money Train 3 and Banana Town by Relax Gaming and Hypernova and Atlantis by Reelplay.
Things heated up when I moved on to the jackpot section, which included more than 30 fixed and progressive jackpot slots. I was impressed with the exclusive games powered by Golden Feather Studios, the casino’s parent company’s proprietary game developer. These include Fireshot fix jackpots as well as two more exciting Fireshot Inferno progressive jackpot games.
As I love playing blackjack and roulette, I was glad Chumba stands out from the crowd by offering table games, unlike many other social casinos that tend to stick to slots. Although it was a modest section containing around 10 exclusive table games powered by Golden Rock Studios, I was still happy to find the following favorites:
Chumba Casino also has a live dealer games, including Live Blackjack, Live Roulette, and Buffalo Blitz Live.
If you are looking for a more unique gameplay experience, Chumba Casino offers a handful of fun Slingo games like Slingo Fire & Ice and over 10 scratch games. As a football fan, I loved the Chumba exclusive Touchdown scratch game.
Continuing my quest for casual gaming, I found on Chumba’s website a bingo section with 75-ball, 90-ball, and bingo-blast games. Bingo ties nicely with social casinos, being a social game that allows players to compete and interact with each other. So, I found it to be a nice addition.
Although Chumba’s game library is small, a lot of thought was put into selecting games. The impressive jackpot section and nicely curated selection of table games make me score 4.0 Yays. Still, there’s no way around it: Chumba Casino’s game selection is small compared to what’s offered by other sweepstakes casinos. For the limited variety, I’ve scored Chumba’s game selection 1.0 Nays.
Win Potential: 4.6 / 5.0 Yays
Although sweepstakes casinos like Chumba don’t offer real-money gambling, it is important to remember that casino-style games are games of chance meant for entertainment and fun and are never a sure way to earn money. Therefore, you should always manage your budget and gamble responsibly. However, if you are looking to increase your chances of winning at a casino, you can look for games that provide a higher RTP (Return to Player), such as table games that traditionally give more probability of winning. Therefore, Chumba Casino’s table game selection is a good place to visit, as table games also have an element of skill that you can develop. Chumba also features many slots with a higher RTP than the 96% industry average, including Hayperova and Banana Town, boasting RTPs of 96.16% and 96.12%, respectively.
If you are looking for higher-risk games that give you a chance to win life-changing prizes, visit Chumba Casino’s jackpot section. Here are some cool jackpot games I’ve tested:
- Reelin ‘n Rockin: SC100,000 jackpot
- Stampede Fury 2: SC100,000 jackpot
- Stallion Grand: GC25,000,000 + SC250,000 jackpot
- Dancing Gold: GC25,000,000 + SC250,000 jackpot
A strong selection of jackpot slots, combined with a nice section of table games and some high-RTP slots, earned Chumba 4.6 Yays for its winning potential. However, as I would have liked to see more high-paying games (for example, Megaways slots) and live dealer game shows, I’ve scored it 0.4 Nays.
Payment Methods: 4.6 / 5.0 Yays
As I’ve written above, you can collect coins through bonuses and logins and play on Chumba Casino for free. The fun will last you a while, but it will be mostly just for fun and entertainment. If you want to play for a chance to win prizes that you can redeem for cash (as I do, because nothing beats the excitement of the chance to win actual prizes), you’ll have to purchase coins on the casino’s coins store.
You can purchase Gold Coins at Chumba’s Coin Store using various convenient payment methods, including:
- Credit and Cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover)
- Trustly Online Banking
- Skrill
- Bank Transfer
- Paysafecard
Purchases are instant and will show in your account balance as soon as the translation is approved. Note that most payment methods don’t have fees other than Skrill’s 1.5% standard fee and possible fees your own bank may be charged for bank transfers. Skrill has a minimum deposit of $10, but there are no minimums on other methods.
Although you can’t redeem the GCs you win, you will receive a bonus bundle of SCs with every purchase so that you can wager these coins on games and redeem them for cash prizes. Purchasing coins is easy; simply follow these quick steps below:
- Visit Chumba Casino’s Coin Store.
- Select the amount of GCs you’d like to purchase.
- Select the payment method you’d like to use.
- Follow the steps to complete your purchase.
When you are ready to redeem prizes, which is only possible once you’ve completed the 1x wagering requirement on your SC bonus, go to Chumba’s cashier, select the amount you’d like to redeem, the payment method, and follow the steps to complete your request.
Processing times take up to 7 days, depending on the payment method you’ve chosen. The minimum amount to redeem is $100 (SC100) and $20 (SC20) for cash and gift cards, respectively.
I scored 4.6 Yays for the selection of payment methods, which is higher than the average. I especially liked the Paysafecard prepaid card option, which is convenient to use and manage your budget with. Although I received my money after 3 days, which was reasonable, I still found the payout time to be a bit long, so I scored 0.4 Nays.
Promotions for Existing Users: 4.0 / 5.0 Yays
Chumba Casino has been around for over a decade, so I’d expect it to be generous in rewarding the loyalty of existing players who have been coming back to play on the site for years. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case. Still, although I didn’t find tailored and exciting promos for existing users, you can collect a pretty decent amount of coins if you are a returning player.
You’ll have to work at it a bit, but it’s surely worth it, as Chumba Casino lets you collect up to GC200,000 + SC40 in free weekly promotions by the following methods:
- Daily Login Bonuses
- Social Media Bonuses
- Mail Request
I’ve also noticed discounts on bundles in the Coin Store, which gave me a good amount of GCs and SCs for my money. So I’ve given the casino 4.0 Yays.
Still, I was underwhelmed by how little this casino does to reward my loyalty and tempt me to return as an existing player. Case in point: I couldn’t find a rewards program anywhere. For these reasons, I scored Chumba 1.0 Nays.
Mobile Platform: 4.0 / 5.0 Yays
Like most social casinos I’ve tested, Chumba caters to mobile users by offering a site built with HTML5 technology. This makes the casino’s website responsive, and its elements are optimized to fit the type of device and screen size you are using. I’ve browsed the casino’s website using my iOS device (iPad) and Android (Samsung phone). The site’s speed was pretty impressive, and the casino’s desktop straightforward design lends itself nicely to the mobile version. Navigation was easy enough, although I would have liked to see a few more hotkeys to make mobile browsing more efficient (like the ‘Get Coin’ and ‘Top 10 Slots’ I liked). Most of the games made it across to the mobile site, so its usability transcends seamlessly between desktop and mobile devices.
I got more curious when I went to test the Chumba Casino app, called ‘Cumba Lite,’ which is available to download for both iOS and Android devices. As its name suggests, the sweepstakes app is a lean, stripped-down version of the casino. Although it is nice for sweepstakes casinos to offer a dedicated mobile app, this one is really bare-bones, providing the following:
- 3 Slots: Gem Huntress, Diamond Panther, Lightning Nudge
- Currency: Gold Chips (not GCs) Only
- Table Games: none
- Free Play Only
- Prize Redemptions: none
- Bonus: 1,000,0000 Gold Coins
Chumba Casino’s mobile website is pretty solid and does what it’s supposed to, so for the mobile website and the fact the casino even has an app (unlike many other social casinos that offer only a web client), I score Chumba 4.0 Yays. However, as the mobile version is fairly basic and the app is underwhelming, I also give 1.0 Nays.
Customer Support: 4.0 / 5.0 Yays
As I’ve noted previously in this review, I came to test Chumba Casino with higher expectations than I had from newer sweepstakes casinos, given it is one of the longest-standing sites in the market. However, similar to the lack of promotions for existing users, Chumba doesn’t exceed expectations in the customer support area either.
As always, I first checked the FAQ section to see how many resources and tools I could find to resolve issues on my own. I was glad to find a good-sized knowledge base, providing over 100 items relating to games, redemptions, promotions, technical issues, and more.
However, when I wanted to contact the casino’s customer support team, I found limited options, including a contact form, email, and social media handles. There’s no phone or live chat support, which is my go-to channel when I’m looking to resolve a quick issue on the go while playing at a social casino. I received a helpful and courteous reply within a few hours, for which I scored 4.0 Yays. However, I’m giving Chumba 1.0 Nays as I would have expected a veteran brand like Chumba to offer 24/7 customer service.
Chumba Casino Overall Rating: 4.2 / 5 Yays
- Yays: 4.2: The casino’s game library is curated nicely and gives a nice mix of slots, table games, and casual games like Slingo and scratch games. The welcome offer is generous, and the casino allows you to collect a nice amount of coins on a weekly basis. There is a good selection of payment methods on hand.
- Nays: 0.8: Although there are quality games on the Cumba website, there’s no way around the fact the game selection is very small compared to competitors. Promotions for existing users were underwhelming, and there was no loyalty program to be found. Customer support offered limited hours and accessibility, and the Chumba Lite app was disappointing.
How Chumba Coins Work
Chumba Casino doesn’t offer real-money gaming. Although you can collect and buy Gold Coins (GCs), you can only use them for fun and entertainment. If you win GCs, you can use them again to wager on games, but at no point will you be able to redeem these winnings for cash prizes or gift vouchers.
Chumba Casino also offers the option to wager Sweepstakes Coins (SCs), which, if won, can be redeemed for cash prizes and gift vouchers. However, SCs cannot be purchased. You can collect these for free through social media bonuses and daily log ins, or you can receive them as a bonus as part of a bundle when you purchase GCs. You can redeem SCs at the rate of SC1 to $1.
Security and Safety
Chumba Casino is owned and operated by VGW, one of the most established sweepstakes companies in the market. It has been providing safe, responsible social gaming for nearly 15 years and is currently sponsoring the Ferrari racing team.
The site is protected by 256-bit SSL encryption, meaning that your personal and financial information will never be exposed to unwanted parties. VGW is licensed by the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), one of the world’s most respected remote gambling jurisdictions worldwide, meaning that Chumba Casino adheres to the highest standards of safety, compliance, game fairness, and data protection.
Every game in the casino has a built-in RNG (Random Number Generator) engine, ensuring that every game outcome is random and fair and that games are never rigged. Chumba’s RNGs are audited regularly by independent testing houses iTechLabs and Gaming Associates. As sweepstakes casinos are not subject to real-money online casino regulations, Chumba Casino is available in most US states, except for Michigan, Ideo, North Dakota, and some other states that explicitly ban social gaming. Always check if it is legal to play in your location.
Responsible Gaming
Chumba Casino takes responsible gaming seriously, and so should you. The site offers responsible gambling tools and resources in its help section, including tools to regulate your spending, self-help resources, and links to addiction support groups. The site is certified by the Responsible Gaming Foundation and Gaming Addicts Anonymous.
Will Chumba Make You Say Yay?
While Chumba’s mobile website is a good option, its app needs a lot more work. I would have liked to see better customer support, more games, promotions for existing users, and a rewards program. Still, Chumba Casino is one of the first social gaming brands in the market, and its experience is shown in the site’s straightforward design and carefully selected game library. I also liked the range of payment methods.
For these reasons, I’m giving Chumba Casino a Yay.
